Aquillius wellness and nutrition symposium

Dr. Nicole hosted a series of roundtable discussion at the Aquillius wellness and nutrition symposium discussing fitness genetics.

Notable discussions included:

  • Should men and women train differently? While there are general differences in physiology, body size and composition, hormones, and metabolism, every individual should be treated as such when designing a training program. Workouts should not be automatically designed based on biological sex. As for genetic predisposition to training type and response rate, men and women have the same genes and variants to determine their optimal program.

  • Inadequate physical activity costs the nation $192 billion a year for health care expenditures. Inactivity causes adults to spend up to $2000 more on healthcare each year than active adults. Long story short, everyone should invest in their physical wellness habits and journey early in life to save money on healthcare later, and lengthen their healthspan!
